Love Your Curls: A Step-by-Step Guide to Washing and ConditioningHow to Correctly Wash Your Curly Hair

Hello my hauntingly gorgeous friends! Todays blog is about how to wash your hair. Why am I making a blog on this? Because most people just are doing it wrong. Which leads to breakage and damage and other things. Not what their hair needs. The other important part to note is that as a curly girl you aren’t brushing your hair in between washes so this is when you want to make sure you are taking the time to love your scalp and stimulate it.

So here are some important steps.

  • Detangle Before Showering:

    • Grab a wide-tooth comb or your fingers and gently detangle your curls before stepping into the shower. This helps reduce knots and tangles while washing. Start from the bottom and work your way up.

  • Fully Saturate Hair:

    • Once in the shower, ensure your hair is fully saturated with water. This helps the shampoo spread evenly and prevents it from stripping your curls' natural oils.

  • Emulsify Shampoo:

    • Take a small amount of shampoo on your fingertips and emulsify it by rubbing your hands together. This evenly distributes the shampoo before applying it to your scalp.

  • Gently Wash Hair:

    • Apply the shampoo to your scalp and gently massage it in with your fingertips, focusing on the roots. Avoid harsh scrubbing, which can tangle or damage your curls.

    • Now do a second shampoo to make sure all that build up is gone.

  • Use a Shower Brush:

    • For an extra cleanse, use a shower brush with soft bristles to help distribute the shampoo and remove buildup.

  • Rinse, Rinse, Rinse:

    • Thoroughly rinse out the shampoo, ensuring no residue is left. Make sure the water runs clear before moving on to conditioning.

How to Condition Your Curly Hair

  • Soak Hair and Apply Conditioner:

    • Once your hair is soaked again, apply a generous amount of conditioner from mids to ends. Gently work it through with your fingers, focusing on areas that tend to be drier.

  • Detangle with a Wide-Tooth Comb:

    • While the conditioner is in your hair, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle any remaining knots. Start at the ends and work your way up slowly to prevent breakage.

  • Allow the Conditioner to Soak:

    • Leave the conditioner and any treatment in your hair for a few minutes to allow it to deeply penetrate and moisturize your curls.

  • Rinse, Rinse, Rinse:

    • Thoroughly rinse out the conditioner , ensuring no residue is left. Make sure the water runs clear before moving on

  • Treatment:

    • Consider adding a deep conditioning treatment at this stage for extra hydration and nourishment. Apply it evenly.

  • Rinse Thoroughly:

    • Rinse your hair thoroughly, ensuring there's no conditioner / treatment left behind. Use cool water for a final rinse to help seal the hair cuticles and enhance shine.

Mastering the art of washing and conditioning your curly hair is a vital step towards maintaining its health and vibrancy. By following these steps and treating your curls with love and care, you're nurturing them to look and feel their absolute best.
